Hello!I have a 5 month old Australian Shepard/Blue Heeler mix. This is my first pet and I'm reaching out to get some opinions on my situation. I've been home with him since my boyfriend and I got him at 8 weeks old. He is a very sweet, calm, and obedient. When we aren't playing fetch or going on walks around our complex, we are cuddling and being lazy together. However, I start work next week and my boyfriend and I are having a debate on what is better for him:Option 1: My boyfriend and I both work 8 hour days. We will crate him at home in our apartment until he's a bit older and can then roam freely. We have crate trained him so he is very comfortable in said crate for hours while we run errands and such. Once he's a bit older, we will progress to letting him roam in the kitchen space, then some of the living room, etc. In the past, we have left him alone for an hour uncrated and he was the best boy. He is not destructive and has never used the bathroom on the furniture.Option 2: Drop him off at my boyfriend's dad's house every morning Mon-Fri. His dad has an acre of land and owns my pup's biological sister. I take my pup there to play every few days for 4-6 hours, but I worry that he will not only continue to develop bad habits that he learns from his sister, but also he will become depressed when he's home with us in the apartment because it's less stimulation and freedom. My thoughts: Of course I want him to socialize, play, and exercise all day but the reality is that he's an apartment dog so I worry about his mental health when he has to go from running all day to chilling in the apartment. However, I know that I will worry about him all day at work if he's just crated all day. But, in 2 years, we plan on moving so I don't want him to get used to having all this free space only to have limited space when we are away from someone with a large backyard. I also want him to see the apartment as his home/as a fun place that he wants to be/the norm. In conclusion, I am very conflicted.Thank you in advance for your insights! via /r/puppy101 https://ift.tt/3iEBcdf
