[Discussion] I found a kitten in an alley. Should I deworm my dogs?

I found a kitten that could be no more than 6-8 weeks old. It’s tiny and I decided to give her a home. This is the first time I’ve own a cat. It is also the first time I pick up a stray animal. My beagle, who is about 1.5 years old, has taken a liking to the cat. Being a beagle, his uncontrollable nose is constantly making him sniff the cat. What’s worse, being as filthy as he is, he has taken to licking the cat clean, with a particular interest in its butthole region. Now I think the cat is clearly infected with worms. It has nonstop diarrhea and is constantly leaving small drops of thick poop everywhere. It’s butthole is sometimes even covered in poop especially when I don’t notice. I have done my best to keep my beagle from licking the cat but I’ve caught him plenty of times. Should I just deworm my dogs? I also have a 16 year old girl doggy that I am particularly careful with. I don’t want anything getting her sick at her age and this cat might just do it. I have tried taking the cat to the shelter twice but it’s almost disrespectfully turning people away. It’s fully booked with no appointments available even in early morning. I might end up taking the cat to the vet but I didn’t want to pay so much especially since I am jobless and in heavy debt. (It was not a good time to pick up a cat and I didn’t think about it at the moment). I have bought some well know over-the-counter deworming medication for all three animals and will do that asap but I don’t want my dogs getting sick. I pride myself in the health of my dogs but the cat is making me questions my “good samaritan deed”. So should I just deworm over the counter and hope for best or is this a full vet appointment. Maybe deworm all three, monitor health of dogs and vet checkup for the kitten? Im starting to realize that I’m gonna have to take some financial expense regardless because of the cat. via /r/dogs https://ift.tt/2HOVunz
